About the Sierra Avalanche Center
The Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC) is a partnership between the Tahoe National Forest and a not for profit Board of Directors. SAC provides backcountry avalanche advisories for the central Sierra Nevada and the necessary funding to employ and support two professional avalanche forecasters through a mix of donations and fundraising events. The Tahoe National Forest provides infrastructure support in the form of office space, office equipment, office services, vehicles, fuel, safety equipment, and daily supervision of the forecasters.
The mission of the Sierra Avalanche Center includes disseminating current snow pack stability information to the general public; providing educational information, knowledge, and understanding of avalanches to recreational users and groups; and facilitating communication in the region to reduce the impact of avalanches on recreation, industry, and transportation through a partnership with the United States Forest Service. http://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/ , http://www.facebook.com/sacnonprofit
About the Divided Sky
The Divided Sky has been a favorite of ours for many years. Whether it's for a beer and dinner after a day of splitting, a quick lunch, or a night of live music you're surely to be pleased. The food is great and atmosphere is laid back. From eastbound US HWY 50, Meyers is the first little town you'll come to as you drop down from Echo Summit.
From their site
It is difficult to put any one label on The Divided Sky. To some it is a bar, while to others it is a restaurant. Some even see it as more of a cafe. It is in fact a cohesive mix of all these things, in an upstairs living room like setting at the edge of the beautiful Tahoe Basin.
The Divided Sky opened its doors on February 14, 2002 with the primary focus of providing a gathering place for residents in the small town of Meyers. It has successfully come to embrace the greater South Lake Tahoe area, becoming an alternative to the busier casino corridor for live music, good food and drinks, and a comfortable, friendly vibe. In its essence, however, it remains a centerpiece of much of the Meyers community as well as a habit-forming hangout.
